Stand out from the crowd by introducing yourself to the world in a DIGITAL WAY  - IDONWWW

With the emergence of intelligent systems, companies are now in a better position to improve interactions between people and computers. Technology giant IBM is intent on making progress in the field of machine learning. IBM’s first real venture into the automated driving space comes in the form of Olli, a 3D printed autonomous bus. It’s a boxy, far-out concept that may be the first of its kind, but that’s the point for a company that isn’t focused only on making vehicles — it’s about remaking the car manufacturing business. If all goes according to plan, Olli will be giving autonomous rides at the company’s introductory event on the new National Harbor campus. The facility, located less than 10 miles from Washington, DC, is part 3D printing demo lab and part inventor playroom, including a new STEM program for kids that demonstrates recycling of printed cars.Local Motors also plans to open new facilities in Knoxville and Berlin this year.

Olli isn’t 100 percent 3D printed, but the majority of its components are. It seats 12, is electric and its brains are based on Watson, courtesy of IBM.The bus itself has been designed and built by Arizona-based Local Motors and they worked with IBM to make the bus autonomous. The IBM Watson integration means that the bus can process natural language queries and answer random questions, just like Alexa.

You can say, “Take me home” or “Why are you taking that route?” or even the dreaded “Are we there yet?” In fact, the latter capability needs to be present in every single automated car.“Cognitive computing provides incredible opportunities to create unparalleled, customized experiences for customers, taking advantage of the massive amounts of streaming data from all devices connected to the Internet of Things, including an automobile’s myriad sensors and systems,” said IBM’s Harriet Green in a statement. The bus accepts data from around 30 sensors and streams relevant data to and from IBM’s cloud.

YOU ARE NOW FREE TO NEVER TAKE THE BUS AGAIN-

Gridlock, unlocked.

Olli is a self-driving electric shuttle built to free us from the shackles of the public transportation systems we’ve grown to hate. As long as you have a smartphone, wherever you are is a bus stop. And wherever you’re going is your next stop.

Neighborhood electric vehicle.

The movement of people and goods from a transportation hub to a final destination in the home.

On Demand

Designed to get you from point A to point B as quickly and reliably as possible — simply hail an Olli from your smartphone or at a pick-up location, choose your destination, and enjoy the ride.

Autonomous

Olli is a self-driving vehicle that uses overlapping sensors like RADAR, LIDAR and cameras to see further ahead and react more quickly than a human.

Electric Vehicle

Clean & Quiet - Symbiotic. Olli helps reduce the output of emissions in dense urban areas, but also helps cut down on noise pollution too.

Fleet Managed

Solving corporate and municipal transportation needs, Olli is part of a fleet management system with a central operation center.

Designed to get you from point A to point B as quickly and reliably as possible — simply hail an Olli from your smartphone or at a pick-up location, and enjoy the ride.

You might see a cute, driverless bus roaming the streets of Washington DC. It's called Olli, and it's an autonomous electric minibus designed by Local Motors, which you might remember as the company that's planning to sell 3D-printed cars this year. While the automaker itself designed the 12-seater's self-driving system, it teamed up with IBM to use Watson's capabilities to power the EV's other features. Thanks to Watson, you can tell Olli where you're heading in natural language ("I'd like to go to [workplace.]") and ask it questions about how the technology works. Best of all, it won't kick you out even if you keep asking "Are we there yet?".

Olli will be exclusive to DC these next few months, but Miami and Las Vegas will get their own in late 2016. Local Motors is also in talks to test the bus in cities outside the US, including Berlin, Copenhagen and Canberra. It's unclear if anyone can get the chance to ride one, since these are merely trial runs, but you can ask local authorities if the EV makes its way to your city.

If and when the time comes that driverless public vehicles can legally shuttle passengers, you'll be able to summon an Olli through an app, just like Uber. And if Local Motors' plans pan out, a lot of people around the globe will be using that app: Company co-founder John Rogers envisions building hundreds of micro-factories all over the world that can 3D print an Olli within 10 hours and assemble it one.
